Draft, 2026-10-10. Text in [brackets] is for the operator to fill in before the app is published.
mapgo is a location-based game of Go played on the road crossings of real cities. This policy says what the game stores about you, who can see it, how long it is kept, and how you get it or have it deleted.
[Operator name, postal address and contact email.] Write to that address for anything in this policy.
| Data | Why | Kept |
|---|---|---|
| A pseudonymous account id from Sign in with Apple (Apple's stable "user identifier") | To recognise your account. We do not ask Apple for your name or email address and do not store them. | Until you delete your account. |
| Your generated handle (like "Azure-Crane-42"), colour and symbol | So other players can tell your stones apart. You can re-roll the handle and pick another colour at any time. | Until you delete your account. |
| Your stones: which road crossing, and when it was placed | This is the game. A crossing is a place, so your stones are location data. | Until the stone is captured, decays or you delete your account. |
| Your territory, stones in hand, points and streaks | Game state. | Until you delete your account. |
| GPS fixes sent with a first stone (position, accuracy, time) | Your first stone in an area needs you to be near the crossing; the fix is checked, and kept to review cheating. | 48 hours, then deleted automatically. |
| A log of board events (stone placed, captured, territory changed) | To bring reconnecting apps up to date. | Kept for the game's history; when you delete your account, your id is removed from it. |
The app reads your location only when you place a first stone, and sends it only with that move. There is no tracking in the background.
We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking services, and we do not sell or share data with anyone for marketing.
Other players see your handle, colour and symbol, and where your stones and territory are, because that is what playing Go on a shared map means. Treat stone positions as public. They never see when a stone was a first stone or any GPS fix; a first stone may be placed up to 30 m from where you stand.
The game server and its database run on a server rented from Hetzner Online GmbH in [Germany], in the European Union. Sign in with Apple is provided by Apple, under Apple's own privacy policy; Apple tells us only the account id. Map data comes from OpenStreetMap and is served from our own server, so loading the map does not contact third parties.
Backups of the database are kept on the same provider for [14] days; data you deleted disappears from them when they expire.
We process this data to provide the game you signed up for (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and, for the 48-hour GPS fixes, for our legitimate interest in keeping the game fair (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
mapgo is not directed at children under 13 [or the age your country sets for consent to online services].
When this policy changes, the new version is published at https://mapgo.roopetervo.com/privacy with its date.
